Iran Claims Sovereign Rights in Strait of Hormuz, Will Charge Fees

Iranian official Qalibaf stated that actions by adversaries have transformed Iran's potential in the Strait of Hormuz into reality, asserting sovereignty and announcing fees for passage services.

Iran's parliamentary speaker Mohammad Qalibaf declared that hostile actions by adversaries have turned Iran's latent capabilities in the Strait of Hormuz into a tangible reality. He emphasized that Iran holds sovereign rights in the strategic waterway and will begin charging fees for services provided there.

The statement comes amid heightened tensions in the region, with the Strait of Hormuz serving as a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments. Qalibaf did not specify the nature of the fees or when they would be implemented, but the remarks signal a more assertive Iranian posture in the waterway.

Analysts view the announcement as a potential escalation that could disrupt maritime traffic and affect global energy markets, though no immediate operational changes have been observed.
