Nordea: Chinese Yuan Set for Gradual Appreciation vs Dollar

Nordea's Kristian Nummelin expects the Chinese yuan to gradually appreciate against the U.S. dollar, noting it has been the best-performing Asian currency this year, gaining against both the dollar and the euro despite widening U.S.-China yield spreads.

Nordea strategist Kristian Nummelin has stated that the Chinese yuan is expected to undergo a gradual appreciation against the U.S. dollar. The yuan has already performed strongly in 2025, emerging as the top-performing Asian currency. It has appreciated against both the U.S. dollar and the euro, even as yield differentials between the United States and China continue to widen.

According to Nordea, this resilience underscores underlying strength in the yuan despite external pressures. The forecast of gradual appreciation suggests a controlled upward trend rather than a sharp revaluation. The bank's analysis does not provide specific price targets or timelines, but the outlook remains constructive for the Chinese currency.
