Polymarket refuses to settle bets on a “U.S. invasion of Venezuela.” 🎰

According to the platform, the events in question were classified as U.S. control over part of Venezuelan territory, which does not meet Polymarket’s definition of an invasion .

Polymarket clarified that the capture or arrest of a president is not considered an invasion unless the U.S. establishes formal territorial control. As a result, the market was ruled invalid, triggering backlash from traders who argue that the outcome contradicts the spirit — if not the letter — of the contract.

The incident has reignited debate around ambiguity in prediction market rules, highlighting the growing need for clearer definitions and governance standards as these platforms scale and handle increasingly geopolitical events.
